Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pelvic Floor Therapy?

Pelvic floor therapy is a specialization of physical or occupational therapy that addresses issues that involve the pelvic floor musculature and pelvic region of the body. These issues can contribute to difficulty with bowel, bladder and sexual function as well as other conditions such as low back or pelvic pain. A functional pelvic floor therapist is trained to evaluate and treat in a holistic way that looks at the whole person, their environment, daily activities, posture, breathing and movement patterns.

What can you expect during your first visit?

Your initial Occupational Therapy visit may include a musculoskeletal evaluation, an internal or external pelvic floor evaluation if appropriate, posture and breath assessment, functional movement assessment, hands-on treatment, assessment of your environment/task analysis, education about the findings of the assessment and strategies to help you make progress at home.

Together, we will create a unique treatment plan tailored to your goals.

Your follow up visits may include a customized combination of manual therapy techniques, cupping, healing through movement and exercise, breath work, connection to your core and pelvic floor, nervous system down training strategies, and self treatment strategies.

How long are the visits?

The initial evaluation is typically 60-90 minutes and follow up visits are 60 minutes.
